LEATHER CARE

Good leather isn't delicate—it just has standards.

Scuffs tell stories. Creases show character. But even the toughest hide deserves a bit of love now and then. Whether you've invested in a custom harness, a corset, or your new favourite piece of leather clothing, these simple care tips will keep it supple, strong, and ready for whatever trouble you get into next.

Clean only when needed. Condition sparingly. Store properly.

Step 1: Clean

For light dirt and fingerprints

  • Wipe with a soft, dry microfiber cloth.
  • Buff gently to restore the finish.

For sweat, body oils, or heavier grime

  • Dampen a soft cloth with lukewarm water.
  • Use a small amount of leather cleaner or saddle soap designed for smooth leather.
  • Work in small circular motions.
  • Remove any residue with a clean damp cloth.
  • Allow to air dry naturally—never use a hair dryer or place it in direct sunlight.

Avoid:

  • Baby wipes
  • Household cleaners
  • Alcohol
  • Bleach
  • Acetone
  • Dishwashing liquid

These can strip the leather's natural oils and damage the finish.

Step 2: Condition

Once the leather is completely dry:

  • Apply a small amount of quality leather conditioner with a soft cloth.
  • Massage it into the leather using circular motions.
  • Leave it to absorb for 10–20 minutes.
  • Buff off any excess until the leather has a soft sheen.

A little goes a long way. Too much conditioner can leave leather feeling greasy and attract dirt.

How Often?

  • Frequently worn items: every 3–6 months.
  • Occasionally worn items: once or twice a year.
  • After getting wet or after heavy use: clean first, then condition if the leather feels dry.

Storage Tips

  • Store in a cool, dry place.
  • Hang garments on wide, padded hangers.
  • Keep out of direct sunlight.
  • Never store leather in plastic bags—use breathable cotton garment bags instead.
  • If leather becomes wet, let it dry naturally before conditioning.

Special Care for Black Leather

Black leather can gradually lose some of its richness over time. If needed, use a conditioner specifically formulated for black leather to help restore colour while nourishing the hide. Always test any product on an inconspicuous area first.

Because harnesses, cuffs, corsets, and similar gear often come into contact with sweat and body oils:

  • Wipe them down after each wear with a dry or slightly damp cloth.
  • Allow them to air dry before storing.
  • Condition periodically to keep the leather supple and prevent cracking.
  • Avoid over-conditioning around rivets, snaps, and stitching, as excess product can soften leather more than intended around hardware.
